Born in Flint, Michigan in 1973 and lived a middle-upper class suburban life up until I left home to attend college, graduating from University of Vermont's business school in '95. With little to no desire to work in a corporate atmosphere and few prospects otherwise I took my first career position with a bank in Chicago and watched as my lifeforce slowly seeped away behind a desk all day.
I was crazy enough to leave the straight path and quit my banking job to join friends in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. My supporters were not happy and labeled my decision foolish and pronounced it a big mistake. Society echoed their concerns as I was now considered a "ski bum" and would likely never amount to much. Inherently I knew they were full of shit and that somehow happiness should be prioritized. My intuition was rewarded as I had an incredible year, met my future wife and then continued my journey west to San Francisco to be embraced by a network of friends and where I was fortunate enough to be an integral part of the Internet's vibrant boom of corporate innovation and creativity. After an IPO, my 2nd startup went bust along with the larger Internet bubble and I took advantage of this opportunity to try something new. |
When I moved to the Bay Area, I began practicing Internal Arts of the Far East including the martial arts of Taijiquan, Bagua, Hsing-I, and Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, as well as healing arts including Qi Gong and Yoga. Following my love of these practices, I gained a massage certification from the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley and later my Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine (MSTCM) from the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences in Oakland. My practice began by doing onsite visits at senior housing units, while slowly building a private practice.
I really enjoyed working with seniors and felt just my presence alone was such a huge gift in these often lonely times. It was an even bigger gift to me as their appreciation was so uplifting and made for an excellent training ground based on the number and types of ailments. Most fun of all was teaching Qi Gong and Tai Chi lessons, which sparked by unique style of transmitted these teachings that I like to call, Occupational Tai Chi. It was also the spark to create a low-cost, no frills practice that I would build and run for nearly 8-years. Here's where things got tricky as, despite much success as a clinical practitioner, I was wishing to move out of the clinical setting to discover my true potential and purpose in this life. So early in 2013, I gave up my needles and herbs, became a Certified Professional Coach and began anew. Not entirely as I kept with me all of the diagnostic tools, treatment experience, and lessons learned as I transitioned to a coaching practice that focused on health and wellness. |
As it is well known that stress has a significant impact upon our health, I believe coaching positioned me to be a better doctor. Ultimately, I swam upstream toward the root causative factors and began unlocking mission critical solutions without the need for fancy instruments. I was free from standard treatment protocols and my superpowers of intuition and energy healing have since been way more fully revealed. This is a continuous unfolding that keeps me attentive and humble.
I am so grateful to my wife of nearly 20 years and two teenage children for their loving support, joy, and inspiration. In my free time, I serve on the Town of San Anselmo's Sustainability Commission and volunteer with the YMCA's Restorative Justice program. Personally, I love spending time outdoors as well as getting out to dance and be with friends. I absolutely adore my local community in Marin County, California and am so thankful for the amazing people and places that make this our home.
